Home from the Holidays

Jesse and I are back home in Cali after Christmas break in Canada. We had a great time visiting family and resting, and the time went way too fast. A HUGE thank you to mom-Dybenko who flew us home and generously opened her home (and hot tub) to me and my brothers and sisters. Our [...]

Mom Dybenko in Canada’s top 100 Most Powerful Women for 2008

This week there was a reception at Wilfrid Laurier to celebrate her top 100 award. It was amazing to see her in her element and see the impact she’s having at that school. See photos and press links

Christen is back in Canada

Home for the holidays, Katie and Phil picked me up from the airport yesterday. I’ll be based at Mom Dybenko’s house in Waterloo. I can’t wait to visit with everyone. Jesse will be in China for most of December and then join us (Parker and me) here on the 23rd. Read my first impressions

Do you normally pick up strange men in your truck?

To pick up from this morning’s moving update, we went to Home Depot to find day labourers to help us unpack. As we got there, our truck was surrounded by about 30 men, mostly all Mexicans, clamoring with their hands up to get our job. It was really overwhelming. How to choose? As soon as [...]

Moving update.

Away we go, moving again! This time, the destination is Cupertino.

Mom’s shortbread

Now that we’re in the USA, we don’t have access to the amazing shortbread recipe on the back of the Canada Cornstarch box. Luckily I found it online. This is the best shortbread recipe ever. And only 4 ingredients. Enjoy!! Ingredients 1/2 cup cornstarch 1/2 cup icing or powdered sugar 1 cup flour 3/4 cup softened [...]

Chinese Plant Life

I’m taking a minute to write a post before I catch my flight back to San Francisco this morning after spending a week in China providing engineering support for a factory here. I have learned a lot working at the factory here, so many things that I would not have learned from my desk in [...]

Moving date number 3 secured!

We’re making the move… again. As of November 29, we will be residents of Cupertino in Silicon Valley. What we will gaining by moving Jesse can bike 5 minutes or walk 20 minutes to work at Apple. This will be HUGE considering he’s used to spending an hour and a half each way on the [...]

Katie’s visit to San Francisco

This is a week overdue, but I still had to post it. We had an absolutely wonderful time with Katie at our place last week. She came to us as an engagement gift from her fiance Phil and his parents… but we feel like the gift was for us.  We were so happy to have [...]

Moving for a third time this year?

It’s been a tough few months and the shiny appeal of the city is starting to wear off.  I haven’t found work and that has really given our budget a slam.  Now I’m in school at Athabasca (thanks mom Dybenko!) and finishing off my degree so I have a hope at employment down here. We’re [...]
