Rachel was a trooper with her broken left hand in a big purple cast for the whole trip. It was nice to have her company while Jess was in China for the first week. When Jesse got home, Rachel hit the couch and we managed all 3 of us in our tiny apartment.

We spent a lot of time relaxing at home and watching good documentaries, but we also did lots of touristy things in San Francisco, Santa Cruz and San Jose.

Some highlights were the beach in Santa Cruz where Rachel couldn’t manage to keep her cast dry in the big waves. Also, a hike in the woods where we saw lots of deer and coyotes. While we were walking, Rachel was so afraid of Mountain Lions that she was walking with her arms up in the air to keep them away! (A sign at the start of the trail warned hikers to raise their arms if one came along.) I had so much fun, but I now I think I have a permanent fear of the Mountain Lions we’ve never seen!

Entry to the area cost $9.50 but it was definitely worth it for the spectacular views.

Everything about it was so beautiful and especially the golf courses. The US Open is at the Pebble Beach golf club this weekend so there were white media tents allover.

We expected it to be warm but it was so windy and cold! Thankfully I found my toque in the car!

Muir Woods National Park They came all the way from Waterloo, Ontario. It was so nice to have some familiar faces around and show them what little we know about our new home.

Erica planned an action-packed itinerary and we saw all the sites in the city.  She knew more about San Francisco than we did!!! Here are the bullet points:

We also got the unexpected opportunity to educate Dan on “how to take a bath“. He was under the impression that you rinse your hair and face while on your knees in the tub.  Haha… we still don’t have a shower curtain for our ancient claw foot tub… and I guess we forgot that minor detail for our shower loving guests. :)

We had lots of fun with them, but we most liked the times we got to sit on our couch with them and just hang out. We miss them already. Come again soon!
